|Germany Continues Dominance, Stöckle Wins Third Individual Title at WMF World Adventure Golf Masters
The 2015 WMF World Adventure Golf Masters (WAGM) took place on June 6th and 7th at the Hastings Adventure Golf Center in Hastings, England and was co-hosted by the British Minigolf Association. Forty-seven competitors representing a record number of countries, including several of the top-ranked players in the world, competed for individual and team titles. The countries competing along the host nation include four-time defending team champions Germany, China, Czech Republic, Finland, India, Portugal and Sweden.
This is the fourth year the WAGM has been hosted at the Hastings Adventure Golf Center and the standard of play continues to improve with each year. "It was a real showcase for all that is great about minigolf," said Sean Homer, captain of the Great Britain team. "More important, there was a terrific level of spirit, camaraderie, and passion throughout the event. I don't think you will find a better example of all that is good about minigolf than what we witnessed this weekend."
In the seven-round team event, Germany remained undefeated in the WAGM team by winning their fifth straight team title by 10 strokes over the Sweden 1 team. Great Britain 1 finished two strokes further back and earned the bronze. Germany's four-member team consisted of Oleg Klassen, Melanie Hammerschmidt, Jan-Peter Lichtenberg, and Martin Stöckle. "In recent years other teams have given strong challenges, but Germany continue to dominate," said Sean Homer. "To take their fifth consecutive title is a truly incredible achievement and testament to their hard work and drive."
In the seven-round individual event, Martin Stöckle (GER) continued his dominance in this event by winning his third WAGM individual title in five years. He accomplished this by making three of the last four holes to edge a charging Michael Smith (GBR). Oliver Rathjens (GER) finished two strokes further back and earned the bronze through a sudden death shootout with Filiph Svensson (SWE). Melanie Hammerschidt (GER) earned distinction with the best finish by a woman in the history of the event, finishing six strokes back in a tie for fifth with Adam Kelly (GBR). Chris Harding (GBR) won the senior title and Will Donnelly (GBR) captured the junior title.
