Minigolf Youth World Championships to take place in Lahti, Finland

Elite youth players U19 to compete in major world minigolf tournament over four-days

The seventh edition of the Minigolf Youth World Championships will be taking place in Lahti, Finland from the 6 to 9 August.

Official training is underway on the two 18-hole Minigolf courses at the Lahden Minigolfkerho club in Lahti with play teeing-off at 8am on Wednesday 6 August. Seventy-seven players from twelve countries (Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Portugal, Russia, Slovakia, Switzerland and Sweden) will be competing in the four-day tournament.

Several of the junior players competing in Lahti are also members of their nation's full international team that compete in the WMF's General Class tournaments.

At the previous 2012 Minigolf Youth World Championships in Bad Münder, Germany, the German teams were victorious in both Youth World Team Minigolf Championships. Finland struck gold in the boy's Matchplay final, with Germany claiming gold in the boy's and girl's strokeplay finals. Austria won in the girl's matchplay championship.

There will be six winners in Lahti too, with titles decided in stroke and matchplay, among national teams and individuals, in boys and girls categories.

Four countries host tournaments in the 2014 international minigolf season as European, Asian and World Minigolf Championships are staged in Finland, Germany, Iran and Sweden.
