Minigolf Open Youth European Championships Tee-Off in Portugal
Europe's Top Youth Minigolfers to Compete on 36-hole Minigolf Course Layout in Portel, Portugal
The WMF Open Youth European Championships of Minigolf will be taking place in Portel, Portugal from the 7th to the 10th of August with players from eleven countries competing on the two 18-hole courses.
The four-day Open Youth European Championships are organised by the World Minigolf Sport Federation and defending champions Germany will be joined in action by competitors from Austria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Great Britain, Portugal, Russia, Switzerland, Slovakia and Sweden.
In total 82 players and thirteen teams will play on the Miniaturegolf and Feltgolf formats of Minigolf Sport. The event is supported by the Municipality of Portel, the ADA and the Portuguese Federation of Minigolf.
WMF Youth Officer Martin Tománek said "The 2013 Open Youth European Championships in Portel is going to be an exciting Minigolf event for all involved. I am really pleased with the support from the Municipality of Portel which has made significant investments in the sport, technology and venue to help make organisers and competitors comfortable and most welcome in the city."
Tománek added "Portel City Hall has also made the players, coaches and officials welcome, with a great programme of social events and methods to promote and highlight the sport of Minigolf to both existing and new audiences. I am looking forward to an excellent championship and wish all of the participants good luck for the tournament."
The finals of the tournament will see champions crowned in team, strokeplay and matchplay categories for both boys and girls.

The reigning Youth European and World Champions are Germany, winning the titles in Naturns, Italy in 2011 and Bad Münder, Germany in 2012 respectively.
The World Minigolf Sport Federation (WMF) is the umbrella organisation of Minigolf sports association's worldwide and continental associations in Asia, Europe and America. There are four minigolf systems recognised by the WMF – Concrete, Miniaturegolf, Feltgolf and Minigolf Open Standard (MOS).
The international Minigolf championship calendar for 2013 sees the EMF Seniors European Championships taking place in Belgium in August and further tournaments held in the Czech Republic, Germany, Great Britain and Portugal during the season.
