|Lamego hosted Seniors Nations Cup
The Senior Nations Cup (SNC) 2009 was held in Lamego,
Portugal on the 30th and 31st May 2009 with 33 participants from six European
federations competing. As usual the SNC was a test run for all teams, players
and coaches as well as for the organising crew ahead of the Senior European
Championships later in the year. Although held in friendly atmosphere, each
player shifted into competition gear to show his/her minigolf skills. For
seniors this was the first time scorekeeping was done using electronic devices
and for some players it took quite some time to focus on the game instead of
the mobile phone. It is planned that at the SEC there will be at least one
official training session with "serious" electronic scorekeeping to get a
better acceptance among the teams.
The "old" concrete course had been covered with a new
surface and two lanes (8 and 13) have to be fixed as humidity has been causing
bubbles. The funnels on almost every hole are part of this beautifully situated
course in a forest and allow very low rounds.
The completely new
Miniaturegolf course has some strange looking lanes (e.g. the kidney has the
largest allowed gap in the straight line and the narrowest on the outside),
some are more competitive and some less (as usual) but all are considered being
fair. As a new course, the played rounds are amazing, but with more experience,
the results will tumble.
Two issues have to be raised: I
heard from almost all of the teams that the lane referees on lane 7 did the
most sensational job they had ever seen on such a lane! Thank you guys! The
other thing is the idea of teaching and letting the speakers to practice the
pronunciation of the names of the foreign participants in advance! Great stuff!
Thank you girls!
For the SEC a larger number of spare SIM-cards and a
sufficient number of flags must be provided.
The official program
(and the catering of course) at the opening and closing ceremonies was great, I
wonder how they may exceed this at the SEC.
The organizers did a
tremendous job, showing greatest hospitality and making the event one to be
